SAGES Foundation will only consider grant applications with direct relevance to the practice and advancement of MIS GI and Endoscopic surgery. Applications that do not meet the criteria will not be considered for funding. It is advisable to review the SAGES website to ensure the request does not duplicate projects already realized by SAGES. Awards are based on the educational and/or scientific merit of the project, the project director’s capability, the likelihood that the project will be completed successfully, and alignment with the mission of the Foundation.
The SAGES Education & Research Foundation considers grant applications with direct relevance to MIS General Surgery. Applications awards grants that allow for 15% for indirect costs (also known as facilities and administrative costs or overhead). Applicants are advised to structure their budgets accordingly.
This grant award does not support faculty salaries or academic appointment compensation. Applicants should ensure that all requested funds are directed toward allowable project costs such as research materials, program implementation, or trainee support.
Availability of Grants: The SAGES Foundation will consider grant requests between $1,000 to $100,000. The total amount of funds available for distribution may not permit every qualified grant request to be awarded.
Deadline: Submissions will open on August 3, 2026 and are due no later than Tuesday, September 8. Applications will be reviewed in late September and notification of approvals will occur in October. The Grant Review Committee will not accept proposals submitted after the deadline of September 8, 2026.
Evaluation of Applications: Applications are reviewed by the SAGES Foundation’s Grants Review Committee and approved by the Board of Directors. Analysis of applications includes a determination of whether a request aligns with the Foundation’s Mission, meets the basic funding criteria, includes clearly articulated pathways to achieving results; and the potential for measurable impact. A request for additional information may be required after application submission. Due to the volume of applications, the SAGES Foundation is unable to fund all requests submitted for consideration.

Progress Reports
A progress report must be submitted for all projects awarded funding. The report is due upon completion of the project, or 6 months after funding is received, whichever comes first. A progress report template will be provided to all funded applicants.
